Well...yes. Every file requested from this site costs bandwidth and bandwidth costs money. Where ever possible please save the GIF using the instructions above and upload the GIF to the location of the HTML pages requesting them.
What about 'direct linking' to forums and chat rooms ?
It is quite simple to start a free web account with someone like geocities and place the animations you use for forums and chat rooms in the free web account. You will probably find the animations not only load faster but will be permanent, we change the names and locations of animations here often.
